Keepin the spice alive

There was a point in my early to mid-20’s where I went out almost every weekend. Activities involved drinking, bars, more drinking and more bars. This lifestyle quickly became tiring and after about a year, I was ready to “settle down.”

“Late nights” suddenly meant watching a movie, reading a magazine and making cookies. “Bars” turned into hosting girls’ night at my place and making dinner. And I no longer need to go out and pick up guys because my guy is always there when I need him.

What happened to me? When did Eric and I turn into our parents? We’re still in our 20’s and I’m frankly too tired to get dressed up to go out to a restaurant (not that we could afford it anyway) and then catch a late-night movie. For us, going out to dinner means calling up one of our parents and seeing who has any leftovers we can mooch off of.

Last night, I was so tired from my weekend of doing absolutely nothing, that I went to bed at 9:30! I’m incredibly fearful of what’s going to happen to us once we have children. We’ll be so tired everyday, we won’t even make it outside to see the sun.

So we’re putting in a little extra effort tonight and going on a “date.” We’ll be using one of the coupons we got from Living Social, for $20 we get $50 worth of food at 118 degrees, a raw organic food restaurant. I’ll let you guys know how it goes. Maybe I’ll even do my hair and put on make-up…

What do you guys do to keep the spice alive? Any fun and cheap dates you go on with your significant other?

Acidosis Threshold (AT) RunsAcidosis Threshold runs are performed at the intensity corresponding to your acidosis (lactate) threshold, an important physiological variable that demarcates the transition between running that is almost purely aerobic and running that includes significant oxygen-independent (anaerobic) metabolism. Therefore, the AT represents the fastest speed that you can sustain aerobically. Research has shown that the AT is the best physiological predictor of distance running performance.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor. I vote for The Changeling with George C. Scott. Another one: See No Evil with Mia Farrow really scared the heck out of me as a kid. I also like Ghost Story based on the Peter Straub book, but its more creepy than scary.

HAHA!! I know exactly what you mean!! We are such boring homebodies these days, but we love it! 🙂 We try to do one “free” date a week, but then splurge every couple of weeks and go out on a REAL date! Have fun tonight!!!

We are kind of in the same boat as you are. Luckily my bf is obsessed with music and discovering new bands so our date nights usually consist of going to see a band. It’s kind of fun to still head out to a bar but with a purpose. Often the shows can be pretty pricey but many times admission may only be 5-10 bucks and we usually eat dinner before hand so its not too expensive!

I recently found your blog and just love it! My husband and I are in the SAME boat at you. It’s nice to hear someone else mooches off the rents and is over the bar scene.

Let’s see, most of our dates consist of cozying up in front of the tube watching football… but we also like to check out the free or cheap things our city has to offer. Last month we paid $5 to rent kayaks and paddle around a local lake. It’s getting a bit cold for that around here, but I’m sure we’ll be on the lookout for more wallet-friendly date ideas come winter. Oh, and another one of our favorite things to do is to have some of our friends over for game nights… board games or whatever we have on hand. It always makes for a fun and relaxing evening!

Woo, girl I feel you! J and I are basically married, just missing the paperwork. We traded in our drinking shoes for slippers and would rather spend the weekends doing home projects, relaxing, watching movies, and all around being lazy.

I don’t know where this “settled down” Erin came from, but I like her. 🙂

The only advice I have to offer for finding cheap dates is to check out your newspaper. We have a few local papers that list weekend events, restaurant reviews, and entertainment. It’s a great way to find a new restaurant to try out or events to attend, sometimes even free! J and I have also really gotten into thrift and antique shopping. We like exploring parts of the city that we don’t normally go to.

The husband and I choose to celebrate the “unofficial start to the weekend” each Thursday night with happy hour pints at our local pub. For less than $10 bucks, we get an hour or so of time with each other uninterrupted by TV, housework, whatever. Plus it really does make the week seem shorter to start celebrating the weekend before it really gets here.
