Newlyweds: Here’s How You Can Get Freebies When Buying Your Next Car

When you buy a new car, there’s more to negotiate than just the price. Typically, you’ll be offered a range of add-ons, usually for an additional cost.

But you don’t necessarily have to pay for all of them. In fact, you can secure some freebies for buying a car. You just need to know what options are available and get ready to negotiate.

Newlyweds buying cars - freebies

If you’re wondering how newlyweds can score some freebies when buying your next car, here are some common options.

Routine Maintenance

Some dealerships automatically cover some routine maintenance for free with a new car. Most commonly, this includes services like oil changes and tire rotations. But, even if the dealer doesn’t have an active program, that doesn’t mean you can’t request these items.

Before you finish negotiating the price, find out if free oil changes, tire rotations, or car washes are available for new car buyers. Just be sure you reach a price that makes you happy (without announcing it) before you start. That way, these add-ons won’t become an excuse not to lower the price.

Floor Mats

Surprisingly, floor mats aren’t always part of the standard package. Many dealerships treat them as add-ons, charging you for the privilege of having them. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t score some as freebies for buying a new car.

Floor mats and similar accessories, like rain guards and car covers, are excellent negotiating points. Dealers will consider throwing them in if it helps them make a sale. Again, you want to get close to your ideal price before you bring these up. Otherwise, the salesperson might try to use them to justify a higher selling price.

Window Tinting

Most new cars come with clear windows. But, depending on your climate, window tinting may help you manage the inside temperature or make direct sunlight easier to tolerate.

While window tinting kits may only cost around $100, professional tinting can run closer to $800. If you want window tinting, see if you can get it as a freebie for buying a new car. Just make sure to specify that you’re asking for professional tinting and not a kit. That way, you can make sure the process is done right, especially if you’re state has laws about its use.

A Second Key

Sometimes, dealerships consider a second key to be an add-on. While this seems silly, it’s common practice to charge for an additional key.

However, asking for a second key as a freebie for buying a new car is a smart move. Electronic keys with options like remote unlock and start, can cost several hundred dollars, so try to negotiate it into the deal without the extra cost.

Are There Other Freebies for Buying a New Car?

Ultimately, dealerships have a lot of options when they are trying to make a sale. Nearly anything could become a freebie if you’re willing to ask.

If you don’t like the stock tires, see if they’ll upgrade them for free. Want a car care kit? Ask if they’ll toss one into the deal. A negotiation is a back and forth, so trying to secure additional add-ons as freebies is acceptable. Usually, the worst-case scenario is that they’ll say no. But, if they say yes, you can save yourself a bundle.
