I am a bad mother

On Oct. 19, 2010, I broke my dog’s foot by jamming it in the front door (not knowing he was behind me).

Exactly one year later, on Oct. 19, 2011, I accidentally pour organic peppermint soap into his eye while giving him a bath.

Please sign me up for the World’s Worst Mom award. I feel horrible. Horrible.

I have been putting saline solution into his eye (thank you Google). But his eye is still healing.

The worst part is he still loves me. He gives me kisses and runs to greet me when I come home.

How can he love me when I am so horrible?!

I think Oct. 19 is cursed.

Please don’t let me be the only bad parent around, regale me with your “bad parent” stories. Please.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done to your child or pet? On accident or on purpose?

We’re normally like this…

Oh you poor thing! You’re not a bad mother at all!
I once left a bottle of super glue out – my dog got hold of it, chewed the lid off and ended up with his paw glued to his chin… he was fine, but he had a pretty silly haircut for a while. These things happen :)

There a variety of ereicxses in obedience training. The main ones are.Walk to heel on the lead (no pulling)Walk to heel off lead. With right, left and about turns.Sit on command.Down on command.Retrieve a dumbell. With finish.Stay for 2 minutes with owner in sight.Stay for 2 with owner out of sight.Down for 5 minutes.Owner out of sight.Speak on command.Sendaway to a given point.Re -call and finish ( to left side). There are all sorts of modifications to the above and it would be best to buy a book on how to train your dog in obedience. Or Google How to train your dog in obedience .There is obedience just to have a dog that is trained in basic things like sit and stay etc. And then there is obedience for competition which requires all the ereicxses to be very precise. If you can train your dog to come immediately when called. Sit when commanded. Stay in a sit or down until you recall it, walk to heel, retrieve a ball or other article and present to hand, then you have quite a well trained dog.

I have: lost my dogs, stepped on my dogs, tripped on my dogs, accidentally locked them in closets, forgotten to feed them, and a whole host of other things. Yeah, I’m not mother of the year either.

Small dogs come with a separate set of challenges and you are definitely not a bad mom. A bad mom wouldn’t feel so guilty!

We just got a dog two months ago (my first dog, ever) and one morning I was trying to be a sweet wife and let my husband sleep in while I took Gigi for a walk…she’s a puppy and is very excitable and I accidently clipped the leash to her ear! And because she was in pain, she was jumping around and I was having a terrible time getting the clip off. I felt like the worst dog-momma e.v.e.r. And 10 minutes later, she was kissing me and wanted to cuddle ::face palm:: I felt so so so bad!

I stepped on my cat once.

    OK…twice.

You seriously have the world’s cutest dog! I didn’t have a dog growing up, but my cousins did. Once while visiting them, their dog was lying on the doormat (which was the same color as the dog). You can see where I am going, I thought there was nothing on the rug and I just stepped on the dog. What broke my heart was that he did not not bark or get angry, he just whimpered! Alex was one of the nicest dogs I’ve known.

    Aww your poor puppy.

I was a horrible horrible pet owner as a child, I blame my parents. I had a rabbit that I loved very much but I forgot to feed it for a couple days and it chewed through it’s cage and ran away. We lived in Hawaii at the time, I like to think it met the love of it’s life and had babies and lived happily ever after in Hawaii. At least that is the thought that lets me sleep at night.

I lost my cat a couple of weeks ago and didn’t even realize he was missing for at least 24 hours. He was stinky and dirty when I found him. So I brought him to get washed and a haircut and they gave him a terrible haircut.
    I’m a bad mother too. It’s ok :)

This post comes on a really sad day for me!
I am leaving work right now to go home to give my dog to another home!
    :( ((
We are not home enough to let her out and be there with her and she has been splitting time between my house and my parents house. Not ideal for my precious loving dog. She will be going to a retired family who will have all day to love on her.
    SO SAD

Oh my goodness, i can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally kicked Klara, my cat. She LOVES us, and is ALWAYS right underfoot. I feel like a bad pet-parent, but a (very) small part of me says “This is evolution in action” This is how species learn not to do dumb things.

also, we we’re walking down the hall toward eachother, we will inevitably deke the same way, and she’ll crash headfirst into my shin. At least both of us are ‘hurt’..

AND once, we figured it’d be funny to have her chase a laser pointer over the back of the couch, and onto a ‘tent’ we’d made to dry a duvet cover over the back of some chairs… naturally she jumped right into the middle, and the whole duvet just collapsed under her weight. She was not hurt, but not impressed with us. We took about 20 min to stop laughing… bad bad bad parents…

=( I hope he feels better!

Yesterday I kept tripping over Octavian. Every time I tried to move out if his way, he went the same way as me and I literally stepped on him like 5 times.

When he was about a year old, I put ant traps in my house and he got into one of them and got poisoned. He was throwing up for hours and had to be hospitalized.

Lastly, remember when I had two cats? Well the whole year and a half I had Leo, Octavian was miserable. I ruined his life for over a year by bringing home another cat.

    Apparently I suck too.

Awww I’m sure you’re a great mother! I’m probably a bad mother. My little dog is a runt and is super tiny (about 10-12 pounds), so when me and the BF are sleeping, sometime we end up kicking him off the bed and he has flown pretty far off the bed. We always feel horrible, but we have no idea how many times we do this and we just don’t wake up.

awww!!! poor bailey!!! You are not the worst mom! it happens! And he still loves you!! that’s all that matters ;-) I have done that too though and felt awful. ONce cut one of my cats toenails too close to the quick and it bled forever. I felt so bad!

We lost our dog twice in one month by leaving screen doors open a crack when we went out. Two seperate times, and two seperate strangers found her and took her to the vet to identify her. Our vet probably thinks we’re so negligent.

And then, a couple of days ago, our dog jumped out of the window of our truck while it was moving (only about 20 km/hr but still!). She needed four stitches in her knee and had to go on pain killers and meds. So don’t worry its not just you!
