Garage Sale 2.0

Only someone like me could do a garage sale and end up bringing more stuff home than what I actually took to sell.

Let me explain, it is now a family tradition to host a garage sale at my in-laws. We did it last year and raked in a cool $99. This year, I figured I wouldn’t make as much because I didn’t really have that much to sell.

I got rid of a ton of stuff when we moved, and we haven’t bought that much over the past year, but still you always find something you can get rid of. Like those two-year-old worn-twice black pair of $80 boots that hurt my feet.  Sold for $7.

I can proudly say I will never again buy a pair of shoes that hurt my feet.

Sold a bunch of clothes, my Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica complete series DVD set ($6), more shoes ($5 a pair), a brand new car charger ($10), our old camera ($10), old wallets ($1), some kitchen items…just anything that we haven’t used in the past year got thrown in there.

It wasn’t much, but it was enough to bring in $166! Why does that seem like winning the lottery to me? Small wallets, small pleasures, I guess.

But the best part was–since I’m the best daughter-in-law in the world (it’s true)–I get first dibs on all my mother-in-law’s items, and she charges me the grand ole price of FREE!

And if it’s free, it’s for me!

I ended up bringing home:

2 Coach Purses
3 Brighton Purses
3 Chico necklaces
2 pairs of sandals
a pizza cutter
Halloween decorations
a large green plant pot
a white super soft blanket
a family-size jar of Classico pasta sauce
Enough spaghetti to last Eric a week
and two packets of spinach raviolli

and did I mention she fed us the whole weekend? Spaghetti on Saturday, waffles bacon and eggs on Sunday. Yup, we stayed there the whole weekend. It felt like we were on vacation. It was great!

But my absolute favorite thing of all from this past weekend, was my newly acquired slippers:

My MIL said she bought them for me last Christmas, then couldn’t find them. So she gave them to me now.

I am in heaven.

Now if only I could get Bentley to stop chewing on them…

Wow. Can I share your mother-in-law???

You scored big time. Nothing wrong with coming home with more under those circumstances.

And great garage sale profits! I just had one today and you beat me by a long shot. 😉

Sounds like you made out with some treasures from your MIL! It was similar for me when my parents had a yard sale over the summer. I took home so much stuff for free, it was great!

That is awesome!!! Sometimes it hurts to let go of something new that you paid a lot of money for, but I am glad you were able to sell the boots. And I think you have the nicest MIL ever 🙂

I wish Nick and Jess were still together. For real. Jessica is an idiot for letting him go.

Sounds like you got some good deals though! Nice!

Why in the WORLD would you sell Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, the complete series. Are you crazy? How else are you going to finally learn the difference between tuna and fish?

(I am so literally not even joking.)

Wow, awesome! Getting free things from family is the best because they never charge!

Sounds like a good weekend! I’m going to try and make a goal to list all of my ebay pile items for sale this weekend.

$250 seems like a good deal to me, to get rid of a lot of stuff!
