I know some people have a thing against new year’s resolutions because we’re setting ourselves up for failure and we should focus on improving ourselves in small steps every day, yadda yadda yadda, bull crap. I like New Year’s Resolutions. I may not complete them all, but at least it motivates me. Stop being a hater.
1) Use Mint to Track Finances
I’ve heard the wonders of Mint. My goal is to start using the program to track all of our finances. I would love to see how much we spent on everything at the end of the year. And with all those cool graphs and colors? It’s like an Erika dream come true!
2) Lose Weight, Get Fit, Eat Healthier
I’m at the heaviest I’ve ever been. I’ve gained almost 20 pounds since I got married in April. I kept saying I was going to wait until Jan. 1 to get on the diet, but I realized I really needed to get my rear in gear once I stepped on the scale. So I went on a New Year’s resolution test drive early, and have seen awesome results. Let’s hope it keeps working that way…self control, self control, self control.
3) Save $10,000
With our credit card payments gone, we have decided to put $500 (or more) toward our savings for a combined $1,000 a month. I’ve already set it up so that it’s automatically deducted from my paycheck and goes straight into our savings account. Out of sight, out of mind. Hopefully, we’ll have a $10,000 fund set up by the time Eric takes a leave from work.
4) Go on a Honeymoon, Save $2,000
With the exception of Kauai (in which we went with Eric’s parents), we haven’t really been on a full-fledged honeymoon just the two of us. We have our sights set on Costa Rica. Traveling seems to be one of those things that just always gets pushed aside because it is such an extravagant expense and at the end of it, you don’t have anything to show for it, like a new car.
But we’re young! We don’t have kids and I want to travel as much as possible before it becomes too difficult to do so. I’m thinking somewhere between $2,000 to $2,500 for a budget. We’ll see…
5) Try at Least 2 New Recipes a Month
Eric and I are set on eating healthier. I’d love to try out some new recipes so we don’t settle into the chicken and veggies routine. (I swear that’s all I cooked when I was single). My MIL (mother-in-law) gave me a cookbook as one of my Christmas presents this year…I think that’s a hint.
6) Wash Face More Regularly
I used to be such a stickler about washing my face at night and using expensive “reduce wrinkles” creams. Since we’ve moved into the new place, the lack of vanity space has made it less appealing to take those extra 10 minutes to take care of my face. I’m determined to get back in the habit.
7) Read 6 Books
I miss reading. I used to read a ton. I need to get back into it.
