I know Thanksgiving hasn’t even passed yet, but there’s 50-or-so-days-left (I’m not really sure, I was too lazy to count) till Christmas! Plus it’s daylight savings time so it’s pitch black by the time I leave the office, and the dark just makes me think of Christmas…have I justified myself yet?

Here is my Christmas Checklist:

  • Buy a Christmas tree ( I may not have any decorations, but it’s our first Christmas! I’m getting a tree anyway!)
  • Hang up the wreath
  • Buy Christmas presents
  • Buy hot cocoa, miniature marshmellows
  • Have Christmas movie fest, wearing pajamas and drinking hot cocoa all day (see movie list below)
  • Drive around to look at Christmas lights
  • Hang up Christmas lights (Eric)
  • Newport Beach Boat Parade
  • Christmas pictures, and cards

Must-Watch Movies

  • The Family Stone
  • Love Actually
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • A Christmas Story (can you believe I’ve never seen this?!)
  • Home Alone
  • A Disney Christmas Carol
  • The Santa Clause
  • Jingle All the Way

The Playlist

  • Carol of the Bells Trans-Siberian Orchestra
  • Santa Claus is Coming to Town Bruce Springsteen
  • Do They Know It’s Christmas Band Aid 20
  • Sleigh Ride The Ronettes
  • Lil’ Saint Nick The Beach Boys
  • Merry Christmas Baby Bruce Springsteen
  • Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree Brenda Lee
  • Jingle Bell Rock Bobby Helms
  • Feliz Navidad
  • Donde Esta Santa Claus Augie Rios
  • The Chipmunk Christmas Song (Christmas don’t be late)
  • Santa Baby the Madonna version
  • The Christmas Song (or Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire song) Nat King Cole
  • Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Frank Sinatra
  • White Christmas Bing Crosby
  • The Little Drummer Boy Harry Simeone Chorale
  • There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays Perry Como
  • Please Come Home For Christmas Johnny Lyon

I’m trying to find the best version of Auld Lang Syne, any recommendations? What songs am I missing? movies?

EEEEEEEeeeeeee I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!

I highly recommend “The Muppets Christmas Carol.” It’s the first Christmas movie I watch every year.

I am a new follower and I’ve really enjoyed your blog! My husband and I are newlyweds (2 months!) and on a budget too! I will be looking for good ideas and advice from you in the months to come!
I just wanted to say the Chipmunk song is one of my all time favorite Cmas songs! I listened to it over and over as a kid! “All I Want for Christmas… Is You” by Mariah Carey is a good one too!

Recently found your blog & have to tell you I LOVE IT!! Really enjoy all you are sharing with us as you go through life’s adventures. It’s truly inspiring, and since you mentioned holiday movies – I have a new one I wanted to share with you. Homeless for the Holidays is an amazing film that follows an executive that has lost it all & has to take a job at a burger joint – a situation many of our familes can relate to today. Based on a true story, it is an awesome film that makes a great addition to your holiday movie list. EXCELLENT for family movie night – especially with the holidays coming up and it came out on DVD last month. Check it out! Thanks again for all you share!

I’ve always considered Little Women (the version with Christian Bale and Winona Ryder) to be a Christmas movie – because it starts with Christmas and the Christmas scene in the middle makes me cry every. single. time. I might get a little teary just thinking about it right now.

Anyway. I’m on the search for more Christmas books – or namely – books that remind one of Christmas. I always read A Christmas Carol, but need something longer (A Christmas Carol only takes me two nights, tops). Any suggestions out there?

Love your list! The Family Stone is such a good Christmas movie. 😀 And I’ve never seen all of A Christmas Story either. :-/

You’re funny. I like the version of Auld Lang Syne from the Sex and the City movie. The first one. Not the second one. I hated the second one.

I only saw “A Christmas Story” for the 1st time a couple of years ago. My husband’s family thinks it’s the best thing ever! Last year I saw “Christmas Vacation” for the 1st time ever. As much as I love Christmas, apparently I’ve been missing the movie classics:)

Love your movie list. Have you seen Prancer?
That’s one of my all time faves. : )

Don’t feel bad for starting to get excited this early for Christmas. I started wrapping gifts last night and addressing Christmas card. lol (I know, nerdy).

Not gonna lie, but I’m a tad bit disappointed that you don’t have “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’ on your list of movies. It’s not a real Christmas without it.

I would also throw “White Christmas” on your list (if you’ve got time), and I second Melissa’s comment – ELF is required viewing as well.

But youre not going to listne to Christmas music until Dec 1 right? Or at least until the day after Thanksgiving?

Oh yes, I forgot about Christmas Vacation – a must have! Oh and the Grinch. I’m partial to the one with Jim Carrey though, I like it better than the original. I’m getting so excited for Christmas now haha I love this post 🙂

Yes, yes, yes! Christmas Vacation and Elf are must-sees! And now I’m totally in the Christmas spirit!

I agree with Melissa on Elf! It’s one of my favorite Christmas movies! Also, you need to add It’s a Charlie Brown Christmas to your list, even though it’s not technically a movie. And you need the soundtrack for that as well.

It’s my first Christmas with my boyfriend and I got us an adorable “Our First Christmas” ornament. I’d definitely suggest something like that for your soon-to-be growing ornament collection! 🙂

Not sure if you’ve listened to Mariah Carey’s new christmas cd, but it suuuucks. Her first one is such a classic, this one? Not so much.

Love your list!

ELF!! I will watch that movie every single time USA plays it during December, and I pretty much keep it in the DVD player at all times. It’s definitely one of my top 5 favorite Christmas movies.
