Decorating on a Budget

Over here, at Newlyweds on a Budget, we like to think we’re hott stuff. (that’s right, two t’s, that’s how hott we are.) So rather than devote one post to my amazing good fortune and incredibly cheap decorating budget, I introduce to you–Decorating on a Budget WEEK!

That’s right, a whole week of posts devoted to my super cheap budget-friendly home decorating. Because I know you guys are just dying to see it all. Today’s post is a preview of what you can expect to find next week…

Let me start off with some disclaimers–1) our home is small. We don’t even have a one-bedroom, we have a loft. Let’s get this out of the way now so you don’t look at pictures and say “that’s it?” Overall, we’ve been able to cut our rent and utilities by 25% by moving to a smaller place, so it’s worth it. And we actually do love it. 2) It’s not completely finished. I kept waiting and waiting for Eric to finish his half of the stuff, but I may be waiting a while so ehh, we’re gonna roll with Decorating on a Budget WEEK anyway.

K, now that we got those pesky disclaimers out of the way, let’s rock this joint.

You can check out a layout of our home here and also where we used to live before.

Next week, we’ll break it down with the play by play.

Being 60 years old, I grew up with the good chemistry sets. Yes, I made a few messes and did some risky things, but I went on to get an engineering degree with a minor in analytical chemistry. I credit my early exposure to science for my present position. This kind of “save us from ourselves” mentality just makes me sick. What if Tesla had been forbidden to play with those dangerous high voltages? The really stupid thing is that anyone with a real knowledge of chemistry can make those compounds they don’t want sold. Maybe we should start a “bathtub gin” movement to manufacture these chemicals, just to defeat their censorship. It eventually worked with prohibition, so maybe it would work again.

Your place looks great! I love what you did to make your house a home. The kitchen is my fave, and I wish I lived closer to pull up a bar stool!

Love your new home! You’ve done a great job with the space. Also, LOVE your dining room table, I was just pointing a very similary table out to my husband last night saying that it’s the one I want…..

Wow I love what you’ve done with the place! It looks fabulous!! I’m in awe of your couch! I’m painting my desk/dresser today and can’t wait to show you pics of my new stuff!! Totally thought about you again yesterday when I saw the massive pillow bins at Home Sense. Man I love that place.

Whoa! Seriously, have you considered starting your own decorating company? One that focuses on small budgets is probably something quite sought after nowadays! Your small place puts my larger place to shame. I never got to decorating my place properly (and I’ve been here now for over 1.5 years, boo!), and now I’m drooling at how awesome your place is. Seriously, consider your talents for opening your own small business if you have any interest in owning your own business!

Loving those couch pillows! Work it, girl! 😉

Also, I don’t blame you for moving into a smaller place to save money! I think about doing that almost every day. I wouldn’t want to live in a studio or anything – I like keeping our bedroom separate from the living room – but a loft would be perfect. 🙂
